The concept of Round Tables of Reconciliation is simple - avoid or avert violence by drawing on the enormous influence (and vested interests) of the world's spiritual leaders. These religious authorities are considered by their congregations to be ambassadors of a Higher Power on Earth. As such, they are already engaged in promoting, preserving, and establishing peace whenever possible. With their help, we envision the success of dialogue and nonviolent conflict resolution where purely secular efforts have failed.
Round Tables of religious leaders could be convened on an ad hoc basis to resolve specific hostilities, and would also exist as permanent bodies for ongoing efforts. They would be much more than just gatherings, however, and our initiative consists of a complete plan for implementation. Three key elements follow, with examples of how each element would function.
