How you can get involved

We have good reason to believe that the Zones of Peace initiative will find acceptance worldwide. For instance, whenever people have heard about the project, they have responded with sincere and overwhelming enthusiasm. Religious and secular leaders alike consider the initiative not only very timely but also long overdue. People of many countries both large and small are already eager to cooperate. And when we have involvement from a significant number of countries, UNESCO will be willing to consider endorsing our efforts.

Why is the initiative so inspiring? Because most people are deeply concerned about losing their precious heritage. This desire to protect one's heritage and for cultural self-preservation can be transformed into a powerful motivation for altruism. Zones of Peace are appealing because they demonstrate tangible results of conflict resolution through non-violent means. They become models of peace in action that can spread across the whole planet.

Furthermore, Zones of Peace could serve as centers for negotiations and humanitarian relief efforts. They would become natural sites for conflict resolution, to contain violence before it gets out of hand. Imagine how history might have been different had the first eight national Zones of Peace in Bosnia & Hertsegovina been internationally recognized.

The time for action is now because we may no longer have time for far-reaching plans. We must therefore awaken our collective conscience. Even as we speak, some of humanity's precious treasures are being destroyed.
